Job Responsibilities
My major responsibility is to oversee everything that goes on
within the Post. If something goes wrong, I either fix it or have
it fixed. I spend four and one-half hours daily either in
contact with my Executive Board and Officers or physically at the
Post working. I oversee all bills, scholarships, American Legion
programs for children & Youth, 179 members and families, in
addition to information sent by state and national
organizations. I personally work with schools and other
businesses and organizations to ensure assistance as needed. I
make trips to district, state and national functions and
conventions to acquire information and additional instruction for
all members of our Post.

It takes a very special type of person to fill this position.
This position requires someone who has the ability to get along
with persons of all genders, races, ethnic backgrounds and
beliefs, as well as, an understanding of what makes this
organization run and how to keep it functioning as it was
originally intended. This person has to be knowledgeable enough
to understand everything from top management to the bottom person
on the ladder.

Uppers
The best parts of my job are being able to attend the conventions and learn
things I have not previously known. I enjoy meeting other Officers and
Executive
Committee personnel from all over the United States and other countries where we
have locations for the American Legion.

Downers
The worst parts of my job are having to participate in funerals
of our members or other persons in the community. I feel
honored everytime we participate in funeral honors or present a
Flag to the loved ones left behind, yet there is a hurt deep
inside me of knowing that we just lost a fellow Veteran and the
hardships they had endured.

Lifestyle
The job outlook for this occupation is very dim, but with the
assistance of other Veterans, we can continue to enlist the aid
of persons interested in other Veterans and how we can assist
them to make their life better and encourage their future.

Compensation
Compensation is mostly a feeling that I have helped or made
someone's life better or someone's day appear brighter. There is
no money exchanged for this type of work - it is all volunteer!
