Job Responsibilities
Advanced functions on MS Word and Word Perfect including formatting, styles, table of contents and authorities, outline numbering, mail-merge documents, scan and clean-up, CompareRite, PC Docs, iManage, and dictaphone.
Job Requirements
In the Intensive Information Processing Program, the word processing classes were very worthwhile, but the grammar and interpersonal skills were unneccesary. It was very easy to get the classes I wanted and the workload was fair.
Uppers
As a temp, I get to bounce from company to company depending on my availability. It never gets boring and I only work when I choose.
Downers
As a temp, I get no notice from the companies I work at. The moment the company doesn't need my services any longer, I am gone. They can cancel a future assignment anytime. For example, I was schedule to temp at at a company for a full week. They cancelled the morning I was to report to work. That left me without work with no notice to make other arrangements for that week.
Lifestyle
I usually work 8 hour shifts and sometimes the weekend shift is 12 hours. There is usually a lot of downtime. As a temp, I don't really get to take advantage of company social events which are for full-time staff only. Since I work in the evening, the dress code is business casual. I've noticed there are usually more African Americans than any other ethnicity. As for myself, I am caucasian.
Compensation
I am paid a competitive hourly rate but receive no benefits.
Advice to Jobseekers
I am not sure the job outlook for the futre is very good. Companies usually request the same people to return when there is work.
