Job Responsibilities
My job responsibilities focus primarily on seeing through the
back end of any transactions that my firm does, in that I look at
all the tax consequences of the deal. My job entails quite a bit
of research and writing on various tax consequences for various
courses of action.

Job Requirements
I have an LL.M. from a top University. This is a very detailed
oriented field, because of all the nitty gritty details of the
code.
|
Uppers
It's intellectually stimulating, and there's no document review or engaging in
due diligence on a deal.
|
Downers
I'm one of few tax associates at my firm, which means that I'm
not in the mainstream. Also, I only see the tax consequences of
the deal, I usually never follow a deal from start to finish.
|
Lifestyle
Because I handle such a little part of any or all deals, I have a very limited
work load. It's good to branch into other areas of the law, such as Trusts and
Estate or Bankruptcy, but I'm happy with my niche as it is.
|
Compensation
Standard market rate. Bonuses are Lock-Step, which means they're
based on hours billed. This is tougher for Tax Associates,
because we don't get much work in the first place.

Advice to Jobseekers
I'd stay away from this field, especially with all the new tax
changes.
