Job Responsibilities
Providing management consulting services to small and medium
sized business owners. Amount of time spent is dependent on how
many active clients. Goal is 40 hours per week, with 75%
consulting and 25% prospecting.

me down, especially if I later learn that they are in a worse
position or have failed.

Lifestyle
Work hours are dependent on how many active clients I have, or want to have as I
am an independent contractor. At this stage in my career I do little travel
outside the local area, but this is my choice. Social events are usually with
other consultants or others n the industry. Dress code is usually dependent on
the client; my first call is always in a suit, but after that it is whatever the
client is comfortable with. Diversity is rarely an issue; business owners are
more interested in knowing if you have the experience and expertise to help them.

Compensation
Usually an hourly rate in the $250/hour rate, but this can be
negotiated especially if a long-term contract is offered. Have
done some work on a commission basis, and some that is a split
fee with other consultants.

Advice to Jobseekers
Small and medium sized business owners have few resources, but
are usually the ones who need it most. I offer assistance as
a "corporate staff" without having to hire anyone full time. In
order to have credibility, you must have extensive experience and
success. Few small businessmen are interested in a high buck MBA,
but they are interested in someone who ha been there and done it
already.
