Job Responsibilities
My major responsibility is the abrasive blasting of steel for construction and maintenence purposes. I have charge of the hopper, that feeds the abrasive through the hose used for blasting ,which requires regular maintenence. Filling the hopper each day along with maintenence takes around a half hour each day. I also look after and maintain the large compressor that feeds high pressure air through a hose used alongside the abrasive to remove corrosion and paint off steel, ready for recoating with paint. Fueling and daily maintenence checks of the compressor will take up to half an hour each day also. I also have my personal blasting and saftey equipment (blast helmet, air line for fresh air in the helmet, glasses, boots overalls, gloves) to inspect before I use them each day. All need to be in good condition due to a high risk of injury if any of these items fail.
Job Requirements
Some mechanical experience or aptitude is useful due to the high maintenence schedule involved with the equipment mentioned above. A good awareness of ones surroundings while blasting is a must as a fall could bring disasterous consequences for the operator. It is a requirement.
Compensation
$42,000.
