Job Requirements
Staffing requirements include but are not limited to Registered
Nurses with Coronary Care Nursing (RN CCU) training and or
experience. If experience only, employer provides training with
education pay. Staff Nurses and new employees are encouraged to
grasp these opportunities and also to upgrade whenever and
whereever possible. Allowances are also available for Nurses
wishing to upgrade to BSc or MA in Nursing. Classes can be either
full time requiring an educational leave of absence or part time,
two evenings per week. Shift schedule changes are allowed to
accommodate staffing.Classes are conducted by educators/professors
on site or at nearby universities. The workload is very
demanding. It is advisable not to maintain a full-time schedule
with full-time courses. It is my opinion that nurses with young
families should pursue these upgrades on a part-time basis.

Uppers
We have a very staff oriented Unit Manager and Educator.
Staff concerns and requirements are frequently and sometimes promptly addressed.
We enjoy a very flexible schedule as long as shift quota and seniority needs are
met.
Working in this Unit is very rewarding. Nurses work along with the Cardiology
Staff and Interventionists to identify, stop and reverse coronary artery
disease.
The reward is to see a patient who would have otherwise died, ready to go home
on
the first or second day post angioplasty. The pleasure is to see the response
when, post angiogram a patient is told his/her coronary arteries are normal. We
are expecting a new salary rate to compensate for higher cost of living and a
job
well done.

Downers
Working in a Unit that badly needs a to be revamped, more likely
replaced.
Some patients and family are not appreciative of the care we
provide. Some are even abusive. There are protocols for such
situations.
Sometimes even with a well planned schedule staff emergencies
arise and our work load increases due to staffing shortage.
I hate to have to manually clean bedpans, sometimes I feel no
salary could be rewarding enough. I can't wait for our new Unit.
