Job Responsibilities
In my position I am responsible for corporate sales growth. Like
in any sales position, I am constantly prospecting. A typical
week may look like this: Monday-Friday from 9am-11am,
prospecting time (telemarketing/cold calls), and the afternoons
are used for appointments and or customer service issues.
|
Job Requirements
Corporate sales usually requires a bachelors degree or signifant
sales experience.
|
Uppers
The best part of this job is the freedom and flexibility. I can make my own
schedule, but I am also responsible for my own actions. In other words, most
sales positions have a quota (goal used by companies to measure your production).
While I enjoy the freedom and flexibility of my job, if I am not meeting my
quotas/sales objectives, then my commission checks are smaller and my employer
isn't happy.

Downers
Always prospecting. It's very easy to burn out in sales. Every
month/quota/sales goal is a challenge. Because you always have
to prospect, sometimes it makes it difficult to take vacation,
because even though you may be physically gone, you are mentally
thinking about the week/month ahead.
|
Lifestyle
This a very social job. It has it's perks. The freedom from making your own
schedule is great. It offers flexibility to get away from the office, unlike
other positions. There are usually sales meetings that are of a social nature
and the top performers receive awards. Dress code is very important in this
position, because you may be meeting with high level corporate executives.
|
Compensation
Compensation can vary for Corporate Sales positions with
different companies and varies due to experience. Salary range
is normally $24k-$40k, plus commission, bonuses and benefits.

Advice to Jobseekers
Corporate Sales positions will be around for a while. Companies
like having local reps that they can rely on. This is very
important because many reps bounce from company to company. My
advice would be to obtain a position with a solid company and
stay put for a while. You will gain the respect of your clients
and your employer.
