Job Responsibilities
-Manage the student services area of the Counseling and Student
Services Division by overseeing and coordinating the appointment
desk area, scheduling counseling appointments for students and
providing guidance and information to students, serving as a
main information center on campus. (19 hrs/week)
- Acting administrator for the automated Scheduling and
Reporting System (SARS). Train faculty, staff and student
workers on usage of SARS. Develop and coordinate workshops and
demonstrations of software. Maintain information on counselor
availability, input counselor schedules, and user access.
Troubleshoot various system problems for faculty and staff.(10
hrs/week)
-Create and generate daily and year-end reports for the
Counseling Division office regarding counseling appointment
usage and other activities. Generate daily reports for
counselors using SARS. (1 hr/week)
-Assist staff and faculty with arranging and maintaining the day-
to-day operations of the Counseling Appointment Desk. (5 hrs/wk)
-Train and supervise student workers for the appointment center
desk area, including training in providing customer service
skills, guidance and support for students' questions. (5 hrs/wk)

The job is very stressful, as there are many changes that can
occur in scheduling every day. It can be difficult to keep up
with all the changes.

Work hours - 40 hours/week
Travel - none required
Social events - usually a holiday party, or retirement parties.
Dress code - business casual, though many people dress casually.

population is diverse.

Compensation
Base salary - 5 step process, increase every 12 months. This
particular position starts at $3132/month. I am at the third
step.
Bonuses - 8 4-day work weeks during the summer. One paid week
off during the Christmas holiday.
No stock options, but the benefits are excellent. HMOs are paid
for, PPOs paid for by the employee at a nominal monthly rate.
Disability, life insurance, flexible spending accounts, etc.,
are offered through a separate company.

Advice to Jobseekers
Approach the job calmly and rationally, as students can be very
manipulative and twist your words around. Be sure to document
as much as you can. Stay in the college for at least 5 years,
and you will be a vested employee in the state's retirement
plan, PERS.
