Job Responsibilities
Well I first go into work where I punch in. After that i check the front desk for the jobs I have to complete before the day is over. Usually it is to clean up sections, as well as greet costumers. I would straighten or fold clothes, making them as neat as possible, so costumers will feel comfortable shopping in our store. I would say all of the time spent at my job, i would be folding or straightening up messed up clothes. Where also i greet costumers in any spare time cleaning. Then at close, i usually sweep or vacuume. This job would usually take twenty minutes to do, where i would push a broom around picking up all trash on the ground.
Job Requirements
Steve and Barry's is a good company to get into if your wanting to get into retail. If I keep up the good work, i will be promoted to astistant manager, where i will get the basic idea of the managers job. My career path is in retail, as well as accounting. Accounting is good for counting money at the end of the day, and as well as if i were to, in the future, open my own store. I'm only taking the basic classes in college right now, but in the future, accounting and lots of math is required for this position.
Uppers
I'd have to say the best part of my job is my fellow work partners. It is very important to get a job where you like the people you work with. It makes everything run smooth.
Downers
I'd have to say the worst part about my job is the uniforms. I wish we could choose our own uniform like American Eagle or other retail stores like that. I mean as long as you look respectable then you should dress how you feel.
Lifestyle
For the future retail employee, i'd have to say work your hardest, and have fun. Most important thing about this job is how you talk to the costumers. You have to be very bright and social all the time you work. You want these people to buy things from your store, so be as nice as possible. Job outlook is very good, as long as you keep working hard, there will always be a job out there for you. The higher up you get in the field the more money you get so keep working up the ladder.
Compensation
I'm very content with my job so far. I wish raises were automatically given, but they are not. I would have to ask for one and then my manager would have to send in a request and see what the business say. Other wise the pay is good and comfortable. Bonuses are not in the job description. All we can do is take as many days off as we'd like. I like that alot because i like to go camping for the long weekend so that friday and monday, i usually take off. Stock options are not given either, as well as benefits. Since i'm only 19 no benefits are given, unless i'm working full time and request it.
