Job Requirements
B.A. in graphic design is usually required. My degree is actually
a B.A. in Arts in Media because I wanted to do video production
as well. Some co-workers are self-taught or have an A.A. or
technical school certification and make as much as I do.

Uppers
Working with the software (Adobe, Macromedia, etc) is always fun. Get to work
with color and graphics.

Downers
Realizing the materials you poured your creativity and best
effort into are being thrown in the trash within six months. This
field has many unprofessional practitioners which tends to lower
employer opinions and salaries for the rest of us. Deadlines and
overtime will eat you alive in this business.
|
Lifestyle
Dress is usually business casual. Most jobs will be 9-5 in an office. Jobs in
printshops and large publishers will have different shifts with some night jobs.
There is usually no travel.

Compensation
Entry-level designers can expect to make between 25K -30K. Mid-
level designers with specialties can expect 35k-40k. Senior
designers with additional skills such as editing and supervisory
roles can earn from 45k to 50K in some markets. Mutlimedia
specialist used to make higher salaries but a glut of such people
has lowered the compensation for multimedia designers in the last
three years.
