Job Responsibilities
My responsibilities are making sure I am at work on time and not being late on my breaks. The major responsibility of my job is to input data into the computer,(faxed office supply orders), doing this with great accuracy and speed. Make sure that any emails from other departments are understood, and followed. Also give back any feed back from the customer,if they have problems. When getting in contact with the customer to be as helpful and supportive with there needs. Customer service is important for the company I work for. Keep the customer happy and they will keep coming back. I do talk to other departments in the company, when trasferring a customer it is my responsibility to get as much info from the customer to give to the other department so they can be ready for that customer and so the customer does not have to repeat themselves. Filing my work at the end of the day is my responsibility, this must be filed correctly so if a order needs to be looked at later it can be found. This task takes only 5 minutes at the end of every day. The other responsibilities mentioned above are done through out your work day. The main responsibility is enetering the orders.
Job Requirements
The education requirement for my job is high school diploma. They do now have a course for call centers, which I believe is maybe a 4 month course. It is not a manditory course, if you have some customer service or sales experience it will help you get the job. I would say that customer service and sales experience would be a better asset to you than a call center class. As long as you understand coming into the job what call centers are like to work in. It is a totally different environment than any other office or sales job. Due to the fact that they have peek times when you are needed and are expected to be there and ready to go.
Uppers
The uppers for my job is that since I enter fax orders I can listen to music, which is a nice way to make the day go by faster and it keeps you in a better mood. Once you are there for a while the job is very easy to do, you work at your own pace.
Downers
The downer about my job is that you are stuck in a desk. You are not to walk around or talk too much to other people. They are very focused on how many orders you can do in a day and how may errors you do in a day. The more orders the better the less errors the better. Not much time for stretching or getting your body moving.
Lifestyle
My particular work hours are from 6:30-11:30 the department is open however from 6:30-7pm. Mon- fri. There is a chance for travel if you win a contest which would take you to the head office. But this is not the norm for travel in my department. Company social events, we usually have a family barbeque in the summer, we will have dress up days, theme days, pot lucks, team outings after work hours, cake once a month to celebrate birthdays and anniversaries, we also have an assoiciation week where we recieve free meals, or some kind of gift for example we all got a wind breaker jacket this year. We have a christmas party, and a family christmas party where santa comes for the kids and games. The dress code for my department is casual, jeans are ok, no sweat pants unless it is comfy day which is announced. No short shorts, short skirts, no haltertops, etc.
Compensation
My positions is paid by the hour I am making $12.64 we top out at 12.90, once you hit this rate of pay you are eligible for a yearly bonus based on a percentage. The bonuses we get are more incentives to do your job above and beyond what is expected. We will run contests on most improved, lowest error rate, highest production, best ready to serve (on work on time, no lates on breaks, low personal time), the prizes range from gift certificates for movies, to places like Walmart or our local mall. Depending how much money the company is willing to give out. We do have a stock option plan where we get a 15% discount on Staples stocks. They are taken off your pay cheques so you do not really miss the money as much. We also have a rrsp fund where the company will match up to a certain percent of what you put in. This also comes straight off your cheque. The benefits we have are the best I have ever had. For full time they are better than if you work part time. We actually have 3 different plans you can choose from so it is hard for me to say what the actuall percentages are. They also have an option of life insurance for yourself and your imediate family members.
Advice to Jobseekers
If you are diligent, responsible, acocuntable, have great customer service skills, and are able to sit at a computer all day, this would be a great job for you. I believe that my job is going to be around for sometime, there will be less positions needed just because of the internet, but there will always be some need for this position.
