*Provide discharge planning for nursing home residents
*Conduct family meetings for residents
*Maintain documentation of treatment plans and progress notes
*Provide emotional support for nursing staff (not part of
official job, but in actuality, it's what I do most often)

Job Requirements
*MSW (Master of Social Work) degree is all that is needed; I
happen to hold both an MSW and an MBA, acquired at different
times (not as a joint program)
*interest in working with the elderly is beneficial to success in
this job
*Ability to tolerate bodily odors is helpful
*Ability to perform numerous clerical tasks (e.g., photocopying,
filing, faxing, and similar) is essential

*Sense of accomplishment when a resident is discharged successfully
*Strong sense of value to the organization, in that it is really the emotional
support I provide that helps everyone else get along and have reasonably
enjoyable workdays

*The noxious odor of most nursing facilities

occasionally, that of the Nursing Home Directors
*The never-ending stream of paperwork and clerical tasks

*If you already have a social work degree, this is as good a
setting as you might get. It certainly beats working with
adolescents!!

Compensation
*$23.00 to $25.00 per hour, working for an agency.
