Job Requirements
I went to the Fisher College of Business at the Ohio State
University. Within that program, I had a variety of core classes
(Economics, accounting, operations, etc) which were challenging
and well taught. In addition, I was required to take a variety
of electives toward my major I chose. These included Six Sigma
classes, communications, marketing, etc. While many of these
classes were very popular, the Administration staff at the
College were extremely helpful in solving enrollment issues
including working with student schedules and classroom sizes to
accomodate students. With that said, our class sizes were
managable both for students and professors. Workload was
challenging but doable.

Uppers
I most like the fact I can see both financial and process improvements at work
when I finish my Six Sigma projects. In addition, I get the chance to mentor
other professionals about things I've learned in engineering and automation such
as statistics, spreadsheets, databases, etc. It's a nice balance of analytics
and teaching.

Downers
I recently moved into the healthcare arena. Unfortunately, my
least favorite part of my job is convincing people that I
understand their healthcare issues. The politics are difficult
as well but I find there are always politics whereever you work.

Lifestyle
Understand your statistics and basic business concepts. Also,
understand how to "read" people's motivations and emotions. As a
Six Sigma Black Belt, you'll get to pick apart a company's
processes for improvement. During the process, you often have to
build trust, motivate, and move people to action to see financial
results.
I believe the outlook for this occupation is very good and
getting better as business resources become tighter and tighter.
In addition, I believe this position can springboard into many
other opportunties (all other Six Sigma Blackbelts at our sites
have moved into Director or higher positions).

Compensation
Compensation is comparable to other Six Sigma Black Belt
positions in the hospital arena. We have very good benefits
including tuition reimbursement, healthcare, childcare
assistance, dental, etc. We also have an opportunity to receive
a yearly bonus based upon the hospital system's financial goals.
