Job Responsibilities
I am responsible for the internal company applications and websites, generally those that support the company's sales efforts. These application include CRM, the company website and partner websites. It includes customizing existing applications and rolling out new applications. I'm also responsible for the database administration for these applications. I use a wide range of tools including MS Access, Visual Basic 6, ASP.Net, C# and SQL.
Job Requirements
Experience in the field is far more important than the education.
Uppers
I deal with just about everyone in the company from the CEO to the secretaries. I get to explore a wide range of technologies. I get to create applications that have a public presence for the company.
Downers
With the wide range of responsibilities comes conflicting priorities and tight deadlines.
Lifestyle
There's no travel involved. At times I get called off hours, but its very rare. The company has a VPN which allows me to connect remotely rather than driving into the office. Dress code is casual.
Compensation
The company is an LLC which means all employees have ownership in the company. The company is structured such that while we each have tax liability in the company, the company pays the tax that we are liable for to us at the highest tax rate. There's a family picnic in the summer and a mid winter party. Salary seems to be comparable to what it should be.
Advice to Jobseekers
Its not a job for someone just out of college. Its a position for someone who has some experience with the technologies involved. You have to be able to deal with tight deadlines and daily changes to what you are working on.
