Uppers
It is what I enjoy doing. The company/job is on the cutting edge of data aggregation and statistical analysis in the marketing/advertsing field. Intelligent people sharing their abilities with each other, developing exciting strategies and programs. Everyone treats each other like adults, with respect and appreciation.
Downers
My commute is an hour in and an hour and a half back. Other than that, I couldn't ask for more.
Lifestyle
It is an 8 to 5 position in which longer hours are put in when needed to complete a project - not often enough to be a problem. Very little travel for the analyst, though the my VP (Consumer Insights) and the President do travel quite a bit. We enjoy socializing, but it is usually impromtu and never formal. We are in a business casual environment.
Compensation
$60,000 annually. Bonus/Profit Sharing option possible. Health/Dental. Vision "discount" program.
Advice to Jobseekers
Gain data mining experience, stretching your statistical analysis skills. I tried going the primary research route first, without much success. Employers were requiring years of experience for entry-level positions. It was my database and secondary research skills that helped me to develop analysis and strategic capabilities to grow and advance. GOING BACK FOR MY MBA WAS ALSO A TURNING POINT. Even having my incompleted MBA on my resume was a huge plus (I am one class away from completion today). Leason learned during my "layoff" time - network, network, network when looking for a position. You NEVER know who is going to know someone that can get you an "in" at one of your target companies. Let everyone you know and meet that you are looking and in what companies you are interested. When you are not looking, be diligent in helping those that are; you never know when you may need their help yourself.
