Job Responsibilities
In my current position, I provide education and training on how companies can
reduce healthcare costs. This involves employee lifestyle changes like losing
weight, lowering cholesterol, stop smoking, better food selection, and getting
exercise. This in turn gives the company a healthier employee, who is less
reliant on medical services, is more productive, have fewer absenses, has
a higher self-esteem and saves the company $ on healthcare
expenditures.

Job Requirements
If companies think insurance carriers and the Federal Government are going to
bail them out of the Healthcare delima, they are off their rocker. They need
advice, education, and training to reverse the flow. This is done by qualified
Health Education Professionals and not Nurses. Behavior Modification is key for
the success of this ever happening.

Uppers
I cause people to think. If healthcare is going to be the cause of why companies
go belly-up, why are they still twiddling their thumbs? Being proactive is a good
thing. Many companies have experienced large savings already. Many companies are
to afraid to put their toes in the water. It takes time to get the ball rolling,
for some it's already to late. So pay me now or pay me later doesn't apply here.
Why? Because there is no later. When Healthcare exceeds sales,it's over. Said and
done.

Downers
The worst part of my job is convincing Presidents and CEO's the value of
Wellness in the workplace. They seem to think someone is going to come along and
sprinkle fairy dust and it will all go away. Good luck, you belong in Disney Land.
|
Lifestyle
I go where anyone wants to listen to me. I would like to be employed by some
company that could use my services, but corporations aren't convinced yet. It's
like sitting on a nail. Sure it hurts, but it dosen't hurt enough to want to git
off your duff and do something about it.
|
Compensation
I work for myself. I'm a retired school teacher, 57. I might be beating my head
against the wall but as the saying goes, "I'd rather be right than President."

Advice to Jobseekers
I think Health Educators will be very good to excellent in the coming years.
Health has been taken to much for granted. Companies need a shot in the arm, a
kick in the tail, or a wake-up call. History is leaning toward this need, it will
happen.
