Job Responsibilities
I work for a research foundation, and my duties consist of being
able to note conditions in the buildings, including cleanrooms,
labs, outdoor emissions, etc. I watch a dedicated computer screen
for toxic gas emissions, and report to my contact people if there
is an alarm or incident. It is a great job. I get a lot of reading
done, write letters, surf the web, listen to the radio for hours
at night - none of which deter me from answering the alarm or a
call if that occurs.

Job Requirements
I stumbled onto this assignment, after 8 years at poorly paid
sites. My original company, Pinkerton Security Services, got
bought out by Securitas, as did Burns Security and this big
Swedish company (Securitas) seems to have almost a monopoly on the
large security contracts in both Europe and America.

Uppers
I am my own boss, I can choose what shift I prefer to work, and have seen many
sites where unusual business goes on. Security is sworn to keep clients' secrets
just that, private. So, no names, but it is a very interesting and challenging
occupation.

Downers
The public's view of Security Officers is very poor. In some
neighborhoods, it is dangerous to wear a uniform, as we are often
mistaken for the police. But the pay is not as low as the public
perception would lead you to believe. I own two townhouses, with a
solar energy system. I am quite comfortable.

Lifestyle
Go for it!
I've worked a lot harder for a lot less compensation, and the
interesting places and people I've met more than make up for the
fact that I must wear a uniform at work. I've learned a lot about
the world from this occupation, and would never go back to working
in a library, if I had the chance.
|
Compensation
I make @ $25,000 per year,
and get two weeks paid vacation every year.
