Job Responsibilities
I was responsible for managing my company's web site. More than a webmaster, I worked alongside other Marketing side to develop integrated marketing initiatives. I also developed a strategic road map for web site development, and based on that, pushed a major redesign project through.
Job Requirements
Bachelor's degree; blend of marketing and technical skills; good interpersonal skills; project management skills
Uppers
Independence, creativity, work alongside many other marketing professionals at my firm
Downers
Stress due to multiple deadlines and projects
Lifestyle
45 hours per week, more when project is near completion; occasional travel to vendors, or web related conferences
Compensation
I worked at a private company; no stock options, salary in the high 50s, total comp with bonus in the low 60s. Prior to leaving for MBA two years later I was in the low 70s.
Advice to Jobseekers
Most web-related positions will require hands-on experience and marketing savvy. Experience with E-Commerce, CRM, all relevant. I took many courses and did a lot of self-study to pick up some of the technical aspects. Was able to hire an intern to help me with day-to-day updates.
