Job Requirements
Long Island University (Bachelors Degree in photography), Suffolk County Community College (Associates Degree in graphic design) Quality= ok nothing spectacular, average overall level of instruction.
Uppers
The best parts are the concerts and it's lighting. Very spectacular and fantastic colors. Wedding photography is fun, where capturing many different cultures. Networking and even occasional socializing is good when at the concerts/weddings.
Downers
Long hours at the weddings, steady work is sometimes few and far between. Frustrated with this. The competition is very fierce.
Lifestyle
While the hours can be long, sometimes it goes by quick. The travel is not that bad, where I am usually no more then an hour from any location. Dress code-neat but casual, except in weddings. Anyone interested in photography had better be thicked-skinned, where due to certain areas being more populated with photographers, the competetion is intense. Quality of work and price had better be excellent. A positive attitude is also very important. Clients can sense this easily and will go elsewhere quickly.
Compensation
Pay depends on the market. WEddings are higher in salary, while publications pay low. Commercial art is a very good way to go, and a person can focus on fine art at their own time. Fine art is tough to make any real money with.
