Job Responsibilities
Date entry of freight and making entry to customs tho clear freight and depenting on several matters concerning the entry clearing thru customs with required paperwork and setting up delivery. Billing customers.
Job Requirements
Have taken the pre-exam classes for customs brokerage for license. have taken several classes required by the by the employers (c-tpat, haz mat, quality control classes and transportation classes company policy classes) all companies were provided by the employers and breifly some of the no- company required courser were offered by St Paul Technical college.
Uppers
Comunication with people in different feilds and countries an getting to know some of their customs. (Needed to do the job to some extent).
Downers
Running into people occassially that see no good in the world. And running into people that are so money-conscious that they are willng to sacrafice quality to same a penny. Or having to take the heat for thing we have no control over.
Lifestyle
Dress code is casual office in many offices so three piece suits are not essential just nice clothing (not showy), cleanand in good repair. Work housr can very office to office I have always been able to keep day hours and have not been required to travel which is nice when you have young children. Social events have been few but very nice which was nice when the childred were younger as it kept child care costs down. and weekend were frre for the most part which was nice for the family interested in keeping reliogion a part of their life. Hard life for singles wanting to be self supporting at first but after a few years very nice support. the insurance plans are good much of the time but worth taking a look at some have dental plans and visiona coverage and hospital plans that are flexible. May have flex plan and 401k/profit sharing plans and some have bonus programs. Ask about christmas bonus as many no longer allow that or year end parties.
Compensation
I currentlky have a health plan that is not as good as the one I had with the previous company. Luckily my daughter's treatments for cancer are not longer her life as she is in renission but doctor visits have a larger co-pay and not as musch of her scans are payed and there are larger deductibles. However I not have vision and dental coverage I believe base salaries are now starting at about $30,000 but that all depends on area. I have found the one job I was paid 32000 in Minnesota was only paying 22,000 in Michigan but housing costs were not as elevated in Michigan so it goes by area too, many have bonuses based on accomplishments, increased sales and leads to the companies offered options. and stock options are many times available.
Advice to Jobseekers
I think since this is a service industry that this will be and increasing field with lots of growth yet to come. and a competative field for the persons in sales. Customer request being a leading factor.
