Job Responsibilities
Ordering of and maintaining usable levels of supplies for 5 sites. Entering data on patients coming into the facilty and interpreting doctors's hand writing and orders for their patients. Instructing a staff of 5-8 on entering proper data and ordering of tests. Translation of diagnostic codes. Collection of blood samples from patients. Collection of paternity samples from alledge fathers and their alleged children.
Job Requirements
Education of the typical phlebotomist comes from various sources including OJT through doctor's offices. Many enter the field by a short 6 month or less course from a technical school. Another route would be through a Medical Technican or Medical Technology course usually pursued through a college or university. This course would include a year's work in a hospital as well. The military also offers credentials and training for this field.

The best part of the job is also the most taxing on most individuals which is direct public contact. You get to meet and converse with many people of different backgrounds.
Downers
Downers mainly include the hours and unappreciativeness of the public for this job. Viewed as a nonprofessional part of the medical field, often customers view you as a puppet to be used by themselves. Unless you have a very loving concern for the patient, you will develope burnout and snap back at patients often resulting in your loss of a position.
Lifestyle
Work hours are long and like most production type jobs you are expected to perform perfectly to exacting standards. Job satisfaction can be high also when you feel as if you have accomplished what few or no others can do.

Compensation depends upon experience and willingness to work, level of attention to detail, and how well you can tolerate the public.
