Job Responsibilities
Being a Pastor, one should constantly be aware of what's happening in and outside the church, like politics, cults, the people's lives in and outside the church. it's also the Pastor's responsibility to educate his people. what the Bible says, how they can live out their lives according to God's precepts & more it's also the Pastor's duty to know and learn the lives of his people this is more of a 24hour work...whenever a person needs your help, you can't turn it down even if it's already 3am. but we do have dayoffs, that's usually anyday of the week except saturdays and sundays.
Job Requirements
Education requirements: needs to have at least a bachelor degree before the Seminary will accept you. It would also be better if you've worked in the secular business world for at least 2 yrs before entering the Seminary. Hiring requirements: needs to have at least a diploma in Biblical Studies or what commonly know as Basic Bible Course/Class. through the grades one recieves, there reflects one's personality...is he teachable or willing to learn or does he is lazy and unwilling. that's important. another thing is words of recommendation. if in the Seminary one had failed to show improvement and willingness, then no one would dare recommend you.
Uppers
The best part in this line of work is getting to know people and seeing them grow (spiritually and inter-personally). Spiritually by seeing how their faith in God continues to grow inspite and despite of trials and problems. Inter-personally by seeing how they live out their faith and applying what they learned from the Bible.
Downers
One has to be prepared in dealing with difficulties in the feild. This line of work deals with people and not just simple hi-hello stuff. But people's daily lives and personalities. it's not easy to work with people who had differnt backgrounds and personalities, and most of the time, these things clashes. and one other downer is rumors...it can easily spread. and if you did something wrong, no matter how tiny and insignificant it seems to be, rumors can easily cause your downfall.
Lifestyle
There's not much travelling in this line of work. But if you're in a big church setting, you'll be required to attend a camp at least once. Either summer or winter camps or both. work hours, as i've mentioned earlier, is not an 8-hour work, but more like a 24-hour one. but we get to have dayoffs. dress code: for the male, it's required to wear Barong Tagalog or suit. for the female, dress, blouse and skirts.
Compensation
basic salary for our country. but free lodging. bonuses would depend on the church that you are in...some are more generous than others. some churches would give out health insurance.
Advice to Jobseekers
a lot of churches are in need of pastors. however, one should check first if you are really called by God for this field. it's not as easy as going to work in the business world (BW). yes, we have office hours...but this is far different from BW. it will drain you physically, spiritually and mentally. it one is considering the pastoral work, then consider the following: God's Calling; love for God; desire to learn; tolerance with pain (verbally and emotionally); love for God's people; humility of spirit; willingness to move when the time comes.
