Job Responsibilities
My responsibilities are to sell ice, fishing licenses,
publications, and launch permits. I also, have contact with the
law enforcement. (Coast Guard, Waterways Officers, and State
Police.) I monitor the marine radio as well as the law
enforcement radio for the WCO's. I handle all kinds of incoming
calls. Anywhere from the weather, lake conditions, to
violations, game commission questions, visitors questions, and
fishing questions and boating questions. I give out maps, and
give people directions to places if I know it. If I don't, I
find out and call them back or they can call back for the
answer. We are a marina but also a lot of people come to just
see the fish we have on display out in the lobby. We weigh fish
for angler awards. That is if you catch a fish that weighs so
much you get a certificate and a patch. I over see the
operation of this marina (per say). I don't run it but my boss
is in Harrisburg so I am basically the local operator. I send
out reports to Harrisburg monthly on what is going on up here.
I am responsible for sending in the payroll for the employees up
here. There are three of us. I am the full time seasonal and
the other two girls are part time seasonals. I help boaters
launch their boats if needed, I also help them come in off the
water if needed. I have radar sites on my computer and I will
warn boaters of impending storms. When maintenance isn't
working here, because of lay-off, it is up to me and the other
girls while we are on duty to clean the restrooms and keep the
building swept and mopped.

Job Requirements
When I got the job, I had to take a Clerk/Typist test and a
typing test. Since then the only requirement is that you have
an application in for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Since
then I have had Defensive Driving, and CPR and First Aid.

Uppers
I love my job because of the people out on their boats. While I am helping them
they make me feel good. Everyone seems to look up to me. I have made quite a
few friends while working here.

Downers
The worst part is that it is only seasonal. I get laid off
every winter from the middle of December till the middle of
April. It is the only source of income I have and I have no
benefits. I have had this job for nine years and it is still
seasonal.
