Job Responsibilities
I work at a nursing home and the main thing that i do is pas out medication, but I also do a lot of charting, dressing changes, caring for residents who are on tube feedings.I also have the resposibility of making sure that the CNAS are doing there duties.
Job Requirements
Right now at this moment I am taking classes towards my RN degree, before obtaining my LPN degree and being accepted into the LPN program there were a series of test that I had to take, I also had to go through three different interviews. This was an 12 month program at the time, so it was pretty fast paced.I was being taught by five different instructors and there was no time for making bad grades you had to have a 76 average in all clases or you were out of the program. I was a single mother at the time and I still am so it was probably was just a little bit harder fo me, but being a nurse is what I always wanted to do so I gave it my all and it paid off.
Uppers
I get a certain enjoyment out of what i do. I get a chance to be around the elderly I love being around what I feel are a "seasoned" group of people you never know wht to expect from them and they can tell you some of the most interesting stories.to be able to help someone in that age group just means alot to me, if it were not for them where would we be. To just see them smile because you did something as simple as helping them with putting on there shoes or giving them a drink of water and to have them put their arms around you neck and say to you I Love you, well that just brings joy to my heart.
Downers
The worst thing about this job is when we have to work short and then to me the residents do not receive the care they deserve, but the care they can get at that time.
Lifestyle
The lifestyle for this job is average there is no special lifestyle, but one should carry themselves approiately no matter what.the hours are decent there are three different shifts, there are part-time jobs as well as full-time jobs available. You must dress for the job no street clothing allowed. There are certain activities done that might let you dress casual once a month. Any one who is interested in this job should have a good heart as well as good nursing skills and they most definitely should have patience and understanding.
Compensation
I work part-time I receive $15.00 an hour and we are giving bonus pay if we work extra, but there are no healthcare benefits.
Advice to Jobseekers
Any one who is seking this as a job should be sure that this is truly what they want, now it is not an easy job but if you love what you do it is very rewarding. I don't know how much longer I will be here, but not because I don't like it, but because I am in school at this moment taking classes towards my RN degree, I am trying to get int a RN program in Jan.
