Downers
Some long hours, very heavy workload and recently very low moral and almost no cohesion within the department, which is a change from when I hired on. Management of the department recently cares little for the employees in the department.

The lifestyle of an in'house attorney is nicer than in most law firms with better hours (50/week) and benefits. Business travel ranges from minimal to 40%. Dress code is casual. There are very few social events and most occur during the work day.
Compensation
Base salary ranges depending on years of experience 5-10 years of experience $125,000 to $150,000; bonus about 18% of salary and stock options vary by year.
Advice to Jobseekers
I think companies will always need patent attorneys. More companies will be instituting technical field tests to make sure the attorneys know the science/engineer.
