Job Requirements
PhD in Entomology with a co-major in Ecology and Evolutionary
Ecology.
A great advantage I had over other candidates for this position
was that I took several classes not required, but that provide a
wider knowledge across different areas (i.e. biochemistry,
nematology, weed ecology, etc).

Uppers
Working with the next green revolution, traits that will come to the market in
the next 5 years, and that will be used by most contries. A technology that
reduces the environmental impact that agriculture has.

Downers
Long hours in the summer, a lot of traveling, and not much free
time the rest of the year

Lifestyle
Work hours are flexible (no time card or things like that) as long as the job
gets done. Business travel is common, meals and hotel paid by company (no

diversity, especially in a broad sense, gaining knowledge of cultures, diversity
as an asset for the company, etc. Great culture, feel welcome and accepted as
you are

Advice to Jobseekers
You need to distinguish yourself in a positive way, you need to be a people
person (it does not matter if you are a good scientist, if you cannot deal with
people), work hard in your education that it will pay off, and do not cut corners
in required classes because you will need them later. The job oportunities will
exist, but competition is hard (better that computer science but worst that an
MD).
