Job Responsibilities
Let's see, as a mobile car detailer, my step father and I basically
drive around town to see if people want their cars washed, waxed,
and the insides cleaned. I take care of all of the physical
labor. I wash, wax, and vaccum the inside of cars. I also being
artistic take care of all the advertising. I make flyers ,
posters, and designed the stickers to be put on our vehicles. I
also take care of all the phone calls that come in to our home
phone. He answers all the calls on his cell phone. We started
this business by ourselves in June 2001, so what ever needs to be
done like buying supplies and things like that, we do.

Job Requirements
There is no academic nature to this business. At least i dont
think there is. If someone wants to learn how to properly wash
and wax a car they can come talk to us, but other than that, no
educational nature. The workload however is overwhelming
sometimes. I will do anywhere from 5 to 20 cars a day. It
physically takes a toll on you.

Uppers
Uppers of my job is staying fit and being able to be out all day. I love cars so
when i get a customer that has a nice car thats always a plus. I get drive around
and talk about cars all day, what could be better. The pay isnt that bad either.
Right now im making anywhere from 300 to 500 a day. So thats an upper!

Downers
Definitly having to work in the heat all day without a break is a
downer. And sometimes we will go a couple days without any
customers at all. This being my only source of income, can be
difficult when we dont have customers. We pretty much just have
to rely on people getting their cars dirty!
|
Lifestyle
Any type pf person with any type of lifestyle can do this job. You just have to
be willing to be out all day and possibly working the whole time. Its alot harder
than it looks. You definitly have to travel alot. We go to the customers. Every
once in awhile a customer will come to us, but very rarely.
|
Compensation
Well there are no benefits in this job because its just me and my
step dad. We make good money doing this like I said earlier
anywhere from 300 to 500 a day. But there are days where i only
make about 45 bucks. You just really got to be willin gto take a
gamble in this business.

Advice to Jobseekers
My only advice for newcomers is be ready for the days where you
make no money at all. You can't get discourged. Just go out and
try the best you can. Advertise where you know there are cars and
people. Go to car shows with flyers or to a race track and pass
them out to the crews of drivers. Be ready for physical labor, it
get tough sometimes. But most of all, have fun!
