Job Responsibilities
My responsibilities as an Independent Beauty Consultant with Mary
Kay Cosmetics include those activities necessary to grow my
business, reach my goals (both professionally and personally) and
maintain integrity. Mary Kay is a Direct Selling company that
relies solely on it's Consultants and Directors to provide amazing
customer service and hold true to a few guiding principles. There
are no set hours, I dedicate an average of 5 hours per week to my
Mary Kay business - including answering e-mails, placing orders
for more product and meeting with customers 1-on-1.
Keeping that in mind, there are no "must do's" to keep you
position with the company. There are definetely some strong
recommendations from top Directors from around the World that
share their success stories and help each person who is open and
coachable to do it the "Mary Kay Way".
Whether a consultant is interested in receiving their products at
50% off or making a million dollars a year - Mary Kay has some
great principles - the Golden rule and keeping your priorities in
balance - Faith, Family and Career.

Job Requirements
There is no required background or education required to join the
Mary Kay Team - just a shear desire to help others and break your
future wide open.
Once the decision has been made to sign up and get started - there
is a myriad of avenues provided to get training and ideas. Each
week there are meetings that are great to attend. You learn best
practices, have fellow-ship with fellow consultants and directors
and leave with a renewed sense of optimism and motivation.
In addition, there are opportunities to attend monthly meetings
that serve a larger area and provide training from top Directors,
the Mary Kay web-site that has everything you need right at your
fingertips and your Unit Director that is there to support you in
every possible way to help you reach your goals.

Uppers
The best part about my job is that I have control over it! I joined as a
consultant because I wanted to earn some extra money for Christmas, and I didn't
want to work every night at the mall and not have time to visit family and
friends - because I was trying to act friendly and energetic while getting no
sleep and standing on my feet for hours at a time.
I have direct control over what hours I want and the amount of money I make at
any given point. When I need to buy something unexpected or want to buy a gift
and need some extra money - I call a customer and book a party or see if they
need to place an order. I get 50% of what I sell, and it sure beats making $7.00
an hour selling children's toys to frustrated and hurried Christmas shoppers.

Downers
The only downers of this job are self-induced. The company and
support are amazing, but with every job there are down days where
you feel unmotivated. Because you are your own boss, it can be
easy to give yourself the day off or not get your attitude in check.
You have to be your toughest, meanest boss imaginable sometimes -
and that can get frustrating. But, in the end, you'll be happy
you did. The difference between failure and success is getting up
one more time after you fall - sometimes that's a tough pill to
swallow.

Lifestyle
The lifestyle for this position is easy -
- You work when you want or need to work (it is best to have consistencey
though, keeping a schedule so that you get done what needs to be done and you can
offer better customer service and support to your customers and teammates)
- Business Travel is tax deductable so don't be afraid to recruit teammembers or
customers from out-of-town. Just make the most of your money and time - don't
get crazy.
- Social events are great - there is always opportunities to meet fellow
consultants and Directors. The biggest event of the year is Seminar in Dallas
TX. You share an amazing 3 days dressing in Gala dresses and being recognized
and encouraged by your top National Directors! The amounts of cars, diamonds and
cash that are given out to those men and women who have put forth the effort to
grown their business is staggering.
- The dress code is strongly encouraged. Mary Kay Ash, the founder of the
company, wanted her ladies (and gentleman) to look the part. She always taught
women to wear a dress or skirt, wear the Make-up and use the skin-care.
- Mary Kay has teammembers all over the world. From the brochures, to the skin
care lines and colors available have made Mary Kay the top selling Skin care line
in the world for several years. Diversity is prominent wherever you look within
the company and it's amazing to see women of all backgrounds, economic status and
education reach top levels within the company

Advice to Jobseekers
My advice is:
- to think positively, "whether you think you can or can't, you're
right".
- make S.M.A.R.T goals and put those goals in front of you every
single day!
- Only be around positive, goal-oriented people - you will learn
to immulate who you are around.
- Listen to your Directors... they are doing it, they can help.
- With regard to attending weekly meetings, Mary Kay Ash would say
that... when you are having a terrible week and don't feel
successful or positive, YOU need to be there, and when you are
having the best week ever, WE need you to be there."
