Job Responsibilities
My job responsibilities include copy writing and editing brochures, powerpoints, credentials documents, advertisements, attorney articles, and press releases. I often respond to requests for proposals (RFPs), organize events such as client meetings, partner conferences, associate training programs and seminars for in-house counsel, and on any given day, I am asked to update biographies on our website and on Martindale-Hubbell.
Job Requirements
Although I have a BA in economics (a degree in marketing is not required in most circumstances), I believe that in order to climb the corporate ladder, an MA (preferabbly an MBA) is necessary.
Uppers
The best part of my job involves my ability to stay creative. When planning events, ordering promotional items, placing advertisements, or creating a powerpoint presentations, I am given free reign when it comes to design, layout and format. I am not sure this holds true in all marketing coordinator positions, as many firms have large and specialized marketing/BD/PR departments, and I work with alongside a Manager and our CMO directly.
Downers
My least favorite part of the job would definitley have to be the long hours. I am scheduled to work from 9:30am-5:30pm (with one hour for lunch), but in order to complete all tasks set for me, I must come in at 9:15am, work through lunch, and more often than not, and stay until 6:00pm, if not later. The only upside to my neverending day include the overtime. On average, I am paid for 10-20 hours of overtime every two weeks. That makes a difference in my bi-weekly paycheck.
Lifestyle
Since I work in a large law firm, with offices located around the globe, I travel every other month to meet with attorneys, and other members of our international BD team. Our dress code consists of business casual, and for special events, business attire. Throughout the year, my firm sponsors numerous events including a monthly icecream social for employees to enjoy and mingle, a monthly birthday social to celebrate, and takes part in several 5K races. The marketing department also attends the annual Legal Marketing Association Conference, which will be held in Georgia this year.
