Job Requirements
Program is very well structured and schedules are planned that
classes are almost always available in my preferred sequence.
Grading appears fair, the workload is challenging but manageable
given the full work schedule of most students. Professors are
motivated. Some tenured professors have great foundation, but
need to pay more attention to keeping classes interesting and
novel year after year.

Uppers
Financial analysis deals with constant change. There is very little routine and
it allows for a great deal of latitude of how to address problems and find
solutions. I enjoy working with a range of other functional areas and like the
challenge of consolidating different perspectives throughout the organization
into shared strategies and goals.
|
Downers
Workload can fluctuate between normal and very high. Working
directly with senior management means that personal schedules
have to be kept quite flexible.
|
Lifestyle
People interested in a similar position have to be willing to let their worklife
infiltrate their personal life. I spend many evenings or vacation days at home
checking and responding to emails. I have taken many phone calls while on
vacation, etc.
|
Compensation
Base salary and bonuses are comparable to what is published on
sites like salaries.com. Benefits are at industry standard. Few
traditional manufacturing will offer stock options.

Advice to Jobseekers
With the quest for information by shareholders and the public
growing ever larger the field of financial analysis is one that
will grow. My advise is to focus on laying foundations in a
growing industry. Many employers look for experience from within
the industry sector.
For advancement into senior management consider CPA
qualifications.
