Job Responsibilities
Created and maintained written emergency response plans at the corporate, divisional and local levels. Provided training and empowered employees to respond appropriately in the event of an aviation disaster. Acted as advisor on all emergency response related issues.
Job Requirements
I have a BA in Psychology from the University of West Georgia, formerly West Georgia College. As part of my training for this job, I completed a certificate in Aviation Safety Management at the University of Southern California School of Engineering. I also attended several training courses offered by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) Academy.
Uppers
Helping to increase employee confidence. After proper emergency response training, employees feel confidence they could deal with a major emergecy (crash, etc) at their airport if they had to. I had a real sense that I was making a difference every day.
Downers
Project based - so work hours get long leading up to big deadlines.
Lifestyle
This job involved a lot of travel, because I was in charge of all employees for the company, and we had almost 40 different airport locations across the U.S. Also, as a manager, you are required (expected) to attend manager-related meetings and functions (like an annual leadership conference, as well as company picnics and holiday parties).
Compensation
I was paid less than many of the people working around me, because I was not a pilot and was not being paid on a pilot-pay scale. However, I was paid very well for a non-pilot in a manager role.
