Job Responsibilities
Victoria's Secret has a very smart time line, the entire day is mapped out on a daily routine sheet, all hours of the day are posted including breaks for p/t assc. and lunch breaks for f/t assc. each time must be followed as is written to continue the pace of the store (i.e. time to go to the bank 12 mins., time to write the daily routine 10 mins., time to process stock, each box is stamped with how many pieces are in the box then you match the box with the time on a sheet that is printed write the name of the person proccessing on the box and how much time they have to do that box, do not get behind because you are shopping out of the box. Anyway, it's a time line but don't get off the train, or there will be a wreck.
Job Requirements
No college for me, but they now require a BA in management.
Uppers
The clients! They will make your day and they are why you are there forget the things you have been taught or coached on when you love your job it comes across to them and when you know what your talking about the know. retail has a bad rep for "that sales assoc" don't be one of those. study your product regaurdless what it is know your product and be able to speak about it.
Downers
The hours, the mall hours are too stiff, why do I have to be at work because Sears, Penney or Sillard's has door busters, at 6 a.m. the day after Thanksgiving that is a clean up time for us. Monday confrence calls and you are not on top, theives!!!, lazy associates etc.
Lifestyle
Work hours for a manager are 45 per week, give or take a few, you are the manager of your store if someone doesn't show up you work. For co's it is 40 hours and they do not go over on hours so once again, watch those hours closely during the week or you end up workin an open to close becasue both your co's have decided they need sat night off. Buisness travel can be at least once a month and up to twice an month if you are an outlineing store, you must be ready to make your own travel arrangements, hotel, car or taxi, meals and any other that might come along. During limited brand confrences everything is paid for but always be ready to take care of somthing as needed. This co. takes very good care of their managers when they get together as a group 1000 strong. Gifts come from everywhere you are very pampered, and treated like a queen, once back in the lions den with the d/s it's all over. Dress code is black, black and more black. what these people expect for you to do in a black tailored suit that cost $300.00 I dont't know I bought wash and wear suits from J.C.Penny that were as good as I could wear on a daily basis I kept expesive suits for corp. visits. My favorite word, diversity, we were taught classes on top of classes on diversity, was the company accused of being just that? No! Yes, and that is an image they try very hard to change.
Compensation
Base salary - I made a great base salary but ended up to be the end of my job. I made $40,000 a year and I was replaced by a 24 yr. old the could pay $24,000 and SHE's a manager of a store. Bonuses are fair both the manager and co's receive abonus so it's a team effort althought weather related issue can affect that that the co. doesn't take into condieration, not a lot of ajustment for that. Stock options and 401k are great. Once you are vested in the co., they will match your contrbutions. Benefits are great, they are a assoc.-run benefit co. and I paid about 25.00 for great insurance, $20.00 copays on medical. Prescriptions are cheap. Eye-care and dental are great.
Advice to Jobseekers
Document, document, document, every conversation with anyone, co's other manager's and district managers have that back up because they also document. When you document a D.S. that is great. This co. needs to have a more open-door policy with loss prevention, HR which they all say they are there for you, but I made phone call to both and they were never returned many times. Don't forget about that documention there also it's on your side. Don't fall into the favorite "nothing can happen to me", the D.S. use one against the other. It happened to me. Trust but don't talk. It was hard for me to lose my job I loved.
