Job Responsibilities
I'm currently in my 3rd and last year of law school. I've been clerking for firms since my first summer, and it's been very rewarding. As an aspiring patent lawyer, I've been writing up patent applications. Prior to that I did some Plaintiff's work and filed documents leading up to litigaiton. Every minute is accounted for in a firm. My current position is as an independent contractor, so I get paid by the project.
Job Requirements
Classes are normal for a law school (read: hard). As you move up the food chain, you get more and more preferential treatment. Classes get easier, you get to enroll first and the workload gets lighter.
Uppers
I love what I'm doing and I get paid to do it!
Downers
Flattening out the learning curve is the biggest challenge.
Lifestyle
Lots of hours, limited travel, many social events and funraising dinners. If you go to court, be ready to wear a suit every day. Otherwise, business casual is enough.
Compensation
I'm definitely going to make my share of money.
Advice to Jobseekers
Do the work. It's so easy to skate by on your intellect, but do the work. It's worth the time.
