Job Responsibilities
My day at work would start at 4:00pm and finnish at 11:30pm. My responsibilities were to ensure that all coustomer's needs were met, and that all the coustomer's were happy with the service. My duties envolved ortherising the petrol pumps so that coustomer's where able to pump petrol, stocking up the shelves and drink firidges, cleaning the shop ffrom top to bottom, making sure the tolets where clean and ready for anyone who needed them, making sure there was enought hot food to buy, cleaning and reloading the coffee machean, changing the prices of petrol, measuring the amount of petrol left so that I knew how much more needed to be delivered, ordering in more cigerets and food, and working in a profeshonal manner with other employees while training them.
Job Requirements
All that is needed to get into this line of work is your high school pass, and experience in a retail indestry. I worked as a manager in a shop for one year and as a bar tender for 4 years befor I applied for this job. You also need to be good at maths and have good comunication skills. Being able to work when asked to at short notice is a big bonus, and personal heigyn is a big must. Any other traing you need for this job, like a first aid certificate and your safty certificate will be done once you are employeed.
Uppers
The biggest upper for this job is being able to meet new people all the time, and work indoors as well as out doors. There is always a lot to do so you are never bord. I personaly realy enjoyed training orther employees. also I enjoyed when I was being trained for my safty certificate. The training was held at the local fire station and I got to put out cemical fires.
Downers
The downers whith this job is that even though there is alot for you to do, it is hard to get it all done in the time that you have. The even bigger downer is that there is a thing called drive offs in this job. A drive off is when you have a person pump petrol, and then they drive off without paying and this will then mean that the employee that ortherised the pump has to call the police and give them the number plate of the driver by going through the vidio cam and finding it. The police will ask for a copy of the vidio, and the licence plate number and then they will call the person to tell them that they need to pay for the petrol or get a fine for 3 times the amount. The hard part in all of this is that some people change there number plates so that the police cant trace them, or have stolen cars, when this happens you will have to pay for the petrol out of your own pocket.
Lifestyle
If you choose this job to be your work, it will realy depend on the hours that you are asigned to. it is a position that is 24hours all week long, the place never colses.....so as long as you know what hours you want to work then tell the employer you will be able to fit any kind of life stile in, but you have to expect that you will have to work on a weekend from time to time, and maybe do a few night shifts, but the employer and you will be able to discuss this better if you choose to have this job. You will need a car and your own license to get to and from work as well as for work. This job can involve driving.
Compensation
Well I was 23 years old when I started working for BP, and I was only casual but doing a 38hour week, so as you can tell I must have been bringing in alot of money, and your right. My first pay paket was over $1800 for my first two weeks work, but that was only because I was being trained. Once I was into my propper rostered shifts I would always clear areound $800 every Two weeks. On weekends I would get no extra, but on public holidays I would be payed 50cents extra per hour. Because you are on a high wage there realy isint much of a bonuses to when you work. There dosent need to be.
Advice to Jobseekers
If you are interested in working in this line of business, there is only a few things you need to know, *Dont do it if you are a wimp and cant stand up for yourself, the coustomers will walk all over you, you need to be tough and know how to bluff yourself through things and have the coustomers know you are the boss. *Make sure you are a people person, you will be on the go all the time and if you are having a bad day you have to keep your cool and be nice, other wise you will be no good for the position, the coustomers are the job. *Know what you want. When you want it and how your going to get it. *And last of all, have a car and your license, you will need these for the job.
