Job Responsibilities
1. Manager of the Molecular Sequencing Lab, including running all
experiments and services provided by the lab; all accounting
duties (billing, deposits, etc.); ordering and maintaining
supplies and machines. These duties occupy 90% of my 40 hour week.
2. Other duty involves helping in the college's greenhouse, 10%
of my 40 hour work week.

Job Requirements
My job doesnt have any direct interaction with the college, my
lab provides services to the professor and graduate students
performing their research.

The best part is being my own boss and a flexible work schedule. I come and go
as I please and as long as the work is done there aren't any complaints.

Downers
Lots of down time, if there is no lab services to be done I
really have nothing to do.

Lifestyle
Work hours are suppose to be 40 hours, which I rarely meet, more like a 35 hour
work week. No business travel. The college always has some holiday or social
event montly to go to. The dress code is almost non existant, I wear shorts and a
tee shirt everyday!

Compensation
My base salary is $30k, no bonuses, stocks. Benefits are quite
good. Excellent health care and dental options. Matching 401k
plan. 10 hours of vacation and 10 hours of sick leave each month.

Advice to Jobseekers
The biotechnology field is definitely the future in science and
research. Just make sure you find a lab that has sufficient
funding and room to grow with current lab facilities with a
commitment to growth and expansion.
