Job Responsibilities
I look after customer orders/accouts, faulty merchandise and refunds, and filing of stock in the stockrooms. I also take and direct phone calls incoming and from within the company, and use the PA (Public Anouncement) system regularly. I do all of these jobs in my shift at any given time, ranging from 3-6 days a week, for an average week of 25 hours.
Job Requirements
No academic backgrounds necessary. on the job training provided.
Uppers
Contact with a variety of people, fun environment, quick-paced, even though there is routine with a lot of the jobs we do, each day is different in it's own way. i don't see it as boring and tedious.
Downers
Sometimes the hours can be cut back depending on how well the sales were in the last quarter. abusive customers are sometimes hard to cope with.
Lifestyle
Uniform is always our blue dress shirts and neat black slacks, with protective footwear, not joggers. our shop hours are from 8:30am - 5:30 pm every week day except Thursday, which is open from 8am - 9pm, Saturday 8:30 am - 5 pm. closed on Sundays. Some workmates socialise on most Friday and Saturday nights, going out to dinner and the clubs. no business travels or company events.
Compensation
We only get an award wage as provided by our union through bargaining agreements. casual loading is higher than full- time/part-time positions, the casuals don't get any holiday or sick leave, no extra benefits at all really. the part-timers and full-timers have a large list of benefits and agreements which i cannot go into great detail for it is approximately 30 pages long, and I am also only a casual myself, so I don't know the short version for you to read.
Advice to Jobseekers
Willing to learn, try new things, don't be afraid or nervous about anything as there will be someone there to help you out for any reason. bright and happy, nice natured, friendly. well mannered and easy to get along with.
