Job Responsibilities
Determining eligibility for FMLA. Creating and Analyzing turnover, benefit time and other reports. Attending Unemployment hearings and preparing supporting documentation. Investigate employee complaints. Assist managers with disciplinary actions and other employee relations issue. Assist with Performance Evaluations. Attend weekly meetings with HR Director & VP of HR to discuss projects such as changes in policies/procedures, Employee Handbook and any ideas to streamline current processes. Respond to EEOC claims.
Lifestyle
The work hours are from 8:30-5:30 give or take 30 minutes. I do not travel in this position. However, travel is determined based on industry and needs of the company. We have a yearly Christmas party, celebrate when we reach our sales goals, celebrate birthdays each month as a company and then as a department (typically there is a gift, cake and a nice sit down lunch to a restaurant of your choice), celebrate anniversaries with a lunch gathering. Our dress code just changed from Casual Mondays to Casual Fridays. We are expected to dress professionally as we are a clothing retailer. We don't have a diversity program at this time but there is a wide varity of people working for the company. The only advice I can give is to ask lots of questions during the interview process to be sure you have a clear understanding of the company culture, mission, etc.
Compensation
My salary is $39K which is considerably low with my experience. Keep in mind that industry (retail is notorius for low pay), size of the company, and performance of the company as a whole plays a critical role in determining your pay. Please negotiate and know what your value is before accepting any offer. I have med/dental, no bonuses, no stock options. My salary should have been $45K just to give you an idea.
Advice to Jobseekers
Research, research, research. As mentioned before industry, size of the company, and success of the company are critical. Make sure you are armed with as much information as possible, this will allow you to make a better decision. I know that a lot of HR jobs are being outsourced but positioned correctly you would be able to benefit from such moves. I love HR and plan to continue on my path to success!
