Job Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, typing of briefs, timekeeping records,
searching database regarding client related information; answer
phones, send faxes, answer phones, making copies, filing, travel,
overtime on an as needed basis. There are a lot of small things
that I do, that at the moment I just can't recall.

Job Requirements
As far as I know, the only educational requirement for a legal
secretary position is a high school diploma, naturally if you
have other education experience (college, etc.) this would be a
plus.

Uppers
Because we are a high tech firm, the best part of my job is learning new
programs on an as needed basis. We do have training classes here and a list is
published each week, so that if something strikes your fancy, you can take the
training classes for it.
|
Downers
The worst part of my job is when things are slow, because, when
things are slow, it is really very, very boring and the time goes
too slowly.
|
Lifestyle
My work hours are from 8:45-5:15 with one hour for lunch. I travel with lawyers
on some of their cases for trial. I've been blessed by being able to travel for
several high profile cases. We do have social functions here, one is our annual
winter staff party, and our annual employee recognition dinner. People usually
come dressed to the nines for both of these and a great time is had by all.
|
Compensation
I don't think I could ask for a better place to work for
regarding salary. We do have end of the year bonuses that are
first rate as far as I'm concerned. We do not have stock options
but all the other perks make working here worthwhile.

Advice to Jobseekers
My advice to anyone seeking a job as a legal secretary, is to
make sure that you are computer literate. With all the new
technology that is coming up, you have to stay on top of things.
Even things that you don't think you would have a need for
(stenography, etc.), take it anyway so that it can be added
attraction to your resume.
