Job Responsibilities
65% guest service (consulting walk-ins) 20% opening controller & registers systems, bank deposit, collecting deposit receipts & obtianing necessary change for day ahead, 15% documentation, daily reports & notes to next shift leaders.
Job Requirements
this particular corporation encourages proper training but does not allow additional labor hours to incorporate its necessity. the district super advises store manager to "work it in" but cannot be doing what must be done in alotted labor hours to do both. i,ve never seen anyone properly trained where i am. i've seen many quit because they get "thrown" onto the floor without another co-worker to ask questions to. there is alot of actual labor in these postitions, moving freight, etc., on top of guest service. there are no qualifications one must have to meet hirable criteria, except for legal eligability of course, & availability to work nights, weekends & holidays. after application has been reviewed the hiring manager calls in to corporate for the new hiree to take a "personality test"--this ensures that the corporation can get lots of work & effort out of an individual for very low pay without hostility or retaliation ...... the new hiree then (upon passing the test) gets to watch a couple of videos about how much fun it can be to work there, then gets left alone to manage the registers & measuring table (where guests have fabric cut)-- while the manager has a district conference call & does not have labor hours to let someone else work with the newhire to help answer questions & such.
Uppers
lunch break. i once was so battered from demanding guests & having to be on the floor without help, i began to feel ill & could not finish my shift. for the life of me i am grateful that i had relief an hour before the end of my shift or who knows what might've happened. the guests would've been even more infuriated to see me leave the floor after waiting for me to tend to each one by one & i surely did not want to "blaaat" in front of them in a trash can.
Downers
the only incentive to do your very best & give an honest effort is that you may get more hours than a co-worker who does not. the corporation is not here to take care of who makes it successful, it is exactly the other way around. the more you give the more you will be invited back to give more, for no thanks at all & certainly not a monetary recognition. it is expected for free, on a daily basis. the yearly merit evaluation allows an employee to increase income by 3,1/2% per calendar year which is very out of reach (an exceptional employee is able to increase by 3%) & not humanly possible with the strains expected of one employee to endure, again, on a daily basis.
Lifestyle
it will soon be replaced by robotic machines, since no respectable human can withstand daily abuse for no pay. go to school, learn robotic machinery repair, even build it yourself & you may have a future.
Compensation
i began as a non-experienced team member in march of 2002 at the wage of 6.25/hr. since then i've had 3 increases, one as merit which was 3% & i asked for more money. i was told to carry keys & i could have more money. that was another 2 shiney dimes. my last merit increase included a new format that i was not aware of & floored me with the new questions for the manager to fill out. the phrasing is in the manner that if the employee is not above & beyond expectations in his/her postition, on a daily basis, the scoring allows only 2% yes for the entire year. my last one got me 3% & i was furious knowing that the allowance was actually 3,1/2%. i missed the 2% margin by only 3 points, which blew me quite aways from where i usually could find myself. i'd put in such hard days & gave it away-just to see that they want it for free.....so now i don't work as hard anymore & carry keys only as a backup. my hours have been cut but it's NO MONEY!! i can't go home wiped out every day & broke to boot. by this point i earn 7.31/hr.
Advice to Jobseekers
it will soon be replaced by robotic machines, since no respectable human can withstand daily abuse for no pay. go to school, learn robotic machinery repair, even build it yourself & you may have a future.
