Location: Fukui, Japan
Company: Japanese Exchange Teaching Program
Experience: Entry-level
Highest Level of Education: Undergraduate Degree

Job Responsibilities
I was responsible for creating lessons plans for approx. 15 classes a week. In addition, I sponsored the student English Teaching Society. I was at school for about 40 hours a week.
Job Requirements
I had to have a bachelors degree.
Uppers
Living in Japan definitely was a plus--generous compensation package and a lot of leave to travel around Asia was great, too.
Downers
It's a lot of work, and you have to learn how to deal with Japanese coworkers. Most of whom are wonderful, but any workplace problems are exacerbated by culture/language difficulties
Lifestyle
Dress code was a relaxed business casual, about 40 hours a week of work. Very little business travel, just up to the capital city for a couple of teaching conventions.
Compensation
Base salary equalled about $32,000 for the year, tax free. In addition, we were on the national healthcare plan, which includes dental.
Advice to Jobseekers
I think they'll stick with this program for a while, but I think they're going to diversify the participants. They're upping the requirements for English speaking for college exams, so the need for native English speakers will be greater than ever.
