Uppers
The uppers in my are that I pretty much hang around the networking area of the bank, and wait for assignments from my superiors. The Benefits are great (Medical, Dental, Vision, 401K etc). As a Network administrator one has the opportunity to make their own hours, open their own business, and be able to retire early. An Administator can relocate himself or herself throughout the country and never have to worry about being employed, due to the excessive demand that there is regarding Network Administrators.
Downers
The downers as a network administrator are few, but some. In a corporation such as like the one I work for, you will need to be able to trouble shoot problems at any time of the day. So in other words, you must be available at any time of the day. You must also be able to troubleshoot Network Problems in other branches of The corporation. At the entry level, one must work very hard to achieve promotion do to heavy competition in saturated market ares such as big Cities like New York and Los Angeles
Lifestyle
The Dress Code if applying to a major Corporation is like any other. You must be professionally etired in a corporate setting (Suit,Tie,and Dressy Shoes. Be Well Groomed). The hours vary, because one will be able to work all hours of the day. Their isn't a set amount of hours. Those who have established themselves in a corporation for about Three to four years might be required to travel and troubleshoot problems abroad. Their company events such as Network Administration Seminars where affiliates can discuss progress reports, and solutions to make network communications more efficient. The Lifestyle of a Network Administrator is good. You get home from work early most of the time, and spend some time with your family. You get alot of vacation time, and if you are a full time employee of a huge corporation, you will receive company perts such as a company car and all paid expense vacations to a destination of your choice.
Compensation
My salary working at JPMorgan chase is around $68,000 a year. I currently own 900 shares in JPMorgan Chase Common Stock, and my 401(K) is currently at $72,000. I received a $5,000 bonus this past christmas which brought up my yearly salary to $68,000. My benefits included medical from Oxford insurance, Dental from Metlife, and My 401(K)savings Plan.
Advice to Jobseekers
My advice to those who are pursuing this field is to be well prepaired for any Network Administration positions, associated with reputable corporations. Get your foot in the door, before you achieve your college degree in the field. Moving up the ladder in any organization is easier when one is already employed, then one who applies after college. I think the Outlook for this occupation in the future will define vast growth in areas where the demand is greatly needed such as the south west of the country (Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, California etc).
