Job Responsibilities
Maintain, install, repair, and troubleshoot industrial process control systems for food and container manufacturing facility. Integration of digital and analog devices and systems into the current state of the art processes in the industry. Invent, design, construct, and document workable electronic and pneumatic solutions for specific process functions. Create custom test gear in support of unique food and container processing environment. Technical support for human interface modules (HIM)'s and assist production personnel in acquiring the skills necessary to safely and efficiently operate complex robotic machines and systems. Maintain combustion systems using natural gas, repair inkjet digital marking machines, video observation systems, access gates, lighting, electrical power distribution and switching systems, totally automated robotic machines, systems integration, electronic repair of 'strange' and unique devices. Diagnose mechanical and operational failures in all of the above listed systems and machines. Record and document all of the above listed activities. Have a thorough knowledge of parts acquisition software and method of finding repair parts. Time spent on any one specific task varies greatly due to the fluidity of priorities of the manufacturing environment on any given day.
Job Requirements
Education Requirements: must have a minimum high school degree; Associates of Science degree in Industrial technology area preferred. Must be a Journeyman level craftsman. Master level craftsman preferred. State and local licenses are a plus. Certified Electronic Technician is a plus. Currently there is no in house training at the facility. You must procure and possess the necessary education, apprenticeship, skills, and knowledge prior to applying for this job. Multi discipline, ie., electrical, instrumentation, machining, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and engineering experience, is a plus.

The confidence to be able to maintain, install, repair, and program almost any sort of electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, mechanical device used in manufacturing environments currently. The ability to easily adapt to a fluid work environment, involving multiple disciplines. The knowledge that the skills possessed are very valuable to my current employer, and, also, to prospective employers.
Downers
Hazardous work environment can contribute to stress, job related illnesses. Noise is always a problem in manufacturing environments. Ergonomics may not be a high employer priority, depending on the company.
Lifestyle
I would have to describe the lifestyle as upper blue collar in this area of work. Must be able to work with a variety of other employees, who may or may not, have the same value structure, morals, ethics, habits, mannorisms, etc, as the Instrument Mechanic. The ability to successfully communicate is essential in this line of work. Dress code for the job is usually work jeans, leather shoes, and cotton uniform shirt. When applying for the job, however, a good business suit is always welcome. The candidate should be willing to work on a night shift for some years to build the senority necessary for a day shift slot. Weekend, nights, and overtime are always a possibility.
Compensation
The current base salary is $23.65 per hour. A shift differential of $0.25/hour is paid for all night time work. A yearly production bonus of up to $637 is paid based on the plant production record. Company stock can be purchased through payroll deduction, with a company match of $.45 per dollar in a good year. Stock purchase is limited to a small fraction of your base pay. Dividends are compounded annually. A tool allowance of $350 is available yearly for breakage and replacement. Uniforms (that never seem to fit) are sparsely furnished by the company. Voluntary medical, dental, and life insurance are available, if desired.
