Job Responsibilities
Proprietary System Implementation - While times may vary significantly regarding specific responsibilities, this function includes learning the system; writing documentation; planning implementation, training and support; developing curriculum and training aids; roll out; delivery of training and system and end- user support.
Job Requirements
A BS/BA in Business, English, Communications, Training or Project Management will get you started. After that, successful experience counts most.
Uppers
The biggest "upper" is seeing the results - people using the systems and being EXCITED about what it can do for them!
Downers
This section is aptly named - It's The Downers. These are the people who do whatever can be done to resist the change to the very last, then constantly complain. Some underhanded ones may even stoop to attempted sabotage.
Lifestyle
LONG work hours and lots of "living out of a suitcase" best describe the lifestyle. The dress codes can vary from place to place, so the best advice is to start out dressing up. You can always dress down later. Sometimes there will be social activities, more likely when there's a team. If it's a solo gig, be prepared with a good book to pass the evenings. But, it can be REALLY interesting seeing places you've never been and thought you might never get to see!
Compensation
Salary can vary widely, from $20/hour up. The bonuses can be good but usually take a bit of fanciful negotiation before the contract is signed. Benefits may not always be offered though, in some cases that they are, may be little more than basic. Again, negotiation may be helpful in this area.
Advice to Jobseekers
Build a reputation for excellence. Beat the deadline whenever possible. Come in under budget. Be honest. If you don't have the answer to a question, don't be afraid to say, "I don't know" - but then find out as soon as possible and follow up. Be upbeat and cheerful - it REALLY rubs off on others.
