Job Responsibilities
Responsible for overseeing all marketing associated with the marketing managment of 9 different credit card websites, including customer acquisition, customer management, revenue generation and cost savings. Manage a team of 16. Interface with offline counterparts and vendors specific to this channel. Also contribute to global efforts by sharing best practices with peers in other business units and countries.
Job Requirements
Minimum college degree, MBA very desirable. My careerpath was very unusual as I have worked in various industries including consumer package goods, promotions, radio broadcast, internet, and now financial services. I have a solid classic marketing background which I've used in various industries and learned those industries. Undergrad degree in psychology, MBA from a top school in marketing/finance.
Uppers
Creative, no two days are the same. Interesting convergence of marketing, operations and technology. Constant need for innovation as technology advances. Field pays well, and offers much chance for continuing education and training.
Downers
Compliance and legal has a huge impact on what we do as we are federally regulated. Being a very huge company means we occasionally lapse into big-company-itis which can be discouraging.
Lifestyle
25% travel as we are in multiple locations. Hours are approx 9-10 hours a day, some weekend work possible in crunch time. My faciility is casual; most of the company is business casual. Company speaks frequently about diversity, although reality is that company is very heavily male in higher levels, and not many minorities, although company is trying to address. From my perspetive, job environment is FUN and my colleagues are very bright and passionate. I've stayed here longer than I planned.
Compensation
Salary is very generous, $150K+, bonus up to 30% based on results, restricted stock grants as appropriate. Benefits are excellent, 401K matched up to 6% ofsalary, fully vested from day one (but must wait a year to join), good employee stock purchase plan. Medical is relatively generous, with a menu of options from HMO to PPO, etc. Time off is generous when you've been with company for a while. Tuition reimbursement program. Training opportunities. Chance to participate in Earthwatch environment programs while on official leave (without having to take time off).International opportunities abound - it's all about what you have a stomach for.
Advice to Jobseekers
Come in with an open mind, recognizing that there is a lot of overlap with operations and technology counterparts so you need to be comfortable with ambiguity. Keep an eye not just on financial services but also other paradigms in ebusiness because there may be application for best practices you find there.
