Job Requirements
Bachelor of Fine Arts/Graphic Design emphasis Also possible with AA or certificate, but salary will be lower. Difficult courseload, as studio art classes are labor/time intensive. Most art degree candidates don't greaduate within 4 years as it takes more time to complete requirements (studio art classes are long and hard to schedule). Rewarding degree field as there are many different kinds of art one is exposed to and it's fun.
Uppers
Best parts of the job is the creativity involved and always the need to learn and expand one's knowledge base as new software and techniques become available.
Downers
Downers are sitting all day and having one's artwork approved by people (customers and supervisors) who are not knowledgeable about design or art.
Lifestyle
I work in a corporate environment with a regular 9-5 cubicle atmosphere. Dress code is biz casual. Nice thing is creative folks are often seen as a bt more diverse/eccentric, so we can get a way with a bit more in terms of dres and attitude than others.
Compensation
Base salary is a bit low for this area due to it's government/military customer base: $43,500 Benefits are very good: dental, medical, 401k, stock options, 2 weeks vacation up to 3 weeks at 4 years seniority, 2 weeks sick leave.
Advice to Jobseekers
Have a solid background in Flash programming!! Very important for the future in this field.
