Job Requirements
My current job is not directly related to my career path. It
required a bachelor of acts and some administrative experience.
My career path is in law. I am currently an evening law student
and was looking for a job that was not too demanding and that
worked with my schedule.

Uppers
This type of job is great for someone who is working through school and wants to
put most of their energy into school. It's a good balance between being
unstressed but not bored or totally unchallenged: It requires competance, strong
administative skills and some knowledge of the legislative process but it doesn't
require any leadership responsibilities or much travel.
|
Lifestyle
Very little travel, part-time hours (20-25 generally), business casual dress,
fairly diverse, generally welcoming and conservatively social environment (as in
no work-sponsored partying and drinking events but lots of lunches, annual picnic
type things)
|
Compensation
Better than I would have expected for non-profit, admin work. My
particular employer offers full benefits even though this is a
part-time job (I don't know it that's typical)

Advice to Jobseekers
If you are pursuing an administrative/coordination type career,
this is a good career-starting job.
I would caution someone looking into a substantive
legislative/policy/lobbying career from taking this type of job-
especially if they get frustrated or feel put off by tedious,
secretarial tasks. It might be an okay jumping off point for a
that type career, but the operative part of the title is
largely "administative" not "Govt. Relations."
Great job if working through grad school! Not high stress but
looks respectible on a resume, i.e., at the very least you
maintianed your work experience during grad school.
