Location: Albuquerque, NM
Experience: Entry-level
Highest Level of Education: MA - Academic Program

Job Responsibilities
I instruct 17 - 21 year-olds in subjects covered by the GED exam, science, social studies, reading, math, and writing. Also serve as a counselor on occassion.
Uppers
Respect from my superiors. I am left alone to select the proper curriculum for each of my students. There is no one "looking over my shoulder" asking me to justify everything I do.
Downers
The uncertainty of some of my students. All are at-risk students, many with criminal convictios. Most are here because they want to be, but some must be here as a condition of their probation.
Lifestyle
My work hours are the usual 8 to 5, Monday to Friday. Usual holidays off. Dress code is very relaxed, almost nonexistant.
Compensation
The compensation is less than I would be recieving as a public school teacher and the hours are longer. I do not have the summer off, as my program is year-round.
Advice to Jobseekers
Must be flexible and willing to compromise. You must have the ability to adjust daily to the attitudes and problems of the students everyday. Unfortunately, I do not see the need for this type of position to go away anttime soon.
