Job Responsibilities
Originate new deals with existing customers and prospect my
territory for new customers for purposes of growing my region
(85%). The method of prospecting includes cold calling, campaign
mailers, setting up symposiums, referral sources, etc. The rest
of my time is spent on internal processes (getting the deals
done) (10%) and pipeline reporting through a CRM (5%).

Job Requirements
Hiring involved 2 rounds of interviews. It involved meeting with
everyone on my team and also the senior leadership team in the
business. Having a business background is key for understanding
the technical aspects in sales within a financial services
frameset. Being able to relate to people and convincing them that
you have the capabilities to sell are a huge plus.

Uppers
Meeting customers, making bonus, and not being in a monotonous functional role.
Working on deals and the thrill of closing is amazing.
|
Downers
Because you are reliant on doing deals to make bonus, there is a
certain level of risk involved. In sales, the steady and
comfortable paycheck does not exist. So, in a down year, you
could make a 4th of what you made a yr before.
|
Lifestyle
You determine your own work hours. However, working for a large company, you are
still "required" to be in the office for at least 7-8 hrs a day. However, if you
need to head out for a bit, you still have your cell phone and can technically
conduct business from anywhere, as long as you have a car, cell phone, and a
computer. Working on the front end allows you to be involved in more charity
events with customers. Plus, a lot of these events do involve golf.

Compensation
Base is $65,000. Commission can range from $0 to as much as $400K-
$500K all in. It all depends on the amount of business you bring
in. That is the inherent risk involved in the job.

Advice to Jobseekers
You have to be hungry and be a risk taker. This is not a job for
someone who wants a steady $85K-$150K paycheck. You have to be
good with dealing with people.
