Job Responsibilities
Being a store manager for FD, your mandatory work week is pre
printed on a schedule. The hours are filled in and you just put
the employees name next to each work slot and thats their
schedule. Take it or leave it. A Managers mandatory hours are
52 hours per week. This includes mandatory Fridays and
Saturdays. You open and close the store 5 days per week, have
one day thats a half of day and one day off perwseek is all you
get. But you never get that day off. Your average working hours
are open to midnight 7 days per week. Average work week is 75
hours.You will work 3 months at a time before ONE day off. You
are given a budget that is 2 people and 300.00 short per week and
you can never do anything the company demands you do in the
amount of time and payroll given. You hire, you fire, you
cashier, you unload your 2000 piece truck, you stock, you lift 80
lbs, you stack your stockroom up to the ceiling. You prep for
inventory which takes three weeks. You process all pre screening
for all potential employees. You take the trash out 5 times per
day. You sweep your floors 3 times a day and you mop your 10,000
square foot store by your self, every friday night working until
3 or 4 in the morning. And you are on salary at $500.00 per week
which works out to about $6.75 per hour

Job Requirements
They claim you have a 6 week training course before you get a
store. Your training lasts about 1 week and then they fire the
current store manager and throw you in head first. Theres a
retail 101 class your suppose to attend but you can never leave
your store and the DM wont come and help you work your store so
you can attend so the District Manager lies and says you attended
it.

Uppers
There is no uppers about working for Family Dollar because they treat you like a
slave and threaten to fire you if your stores not clean.

Downers
Once you realize that all your hardwork is getting you no where
fast, you are just another person in the turnstyle and you
revolve out as another victim comes in.

Lifestyle
You must be single. If you have a relationship it will end and if your married
you will be divorced. You have to be 100 percent dedicated and can not go out
side the walls of the store. If you have kids they will never see you. If you
have a pet it will die because your never home to feed it. If you have any
outside hobbies like bowling, or darts, you have to quit as you could never go
out. You will never see your kids soccer game or go to a school play. You must
be a loner and have no friends or family.

Compensation
An average bonus per year is based one ONE percent of your
controllable expenses. Average bonus is $2,000.00 per year IF
you have a 1.5 million dollar in sales per year store.

Advice to Jobseekers
It is the worst company to work for and there is NO quality of
life. They only care about the almighty dollar and could care
less about their store managers because your a dime a dozen.
Most managers get fired before their one year anniversary so they
dont get their raise or vacation pay and a new manager comes in
at a lesser salary and it saves the district in payroll.
