Job Responsibilities
Clinical research (4hrs/day) ?? Contributed to strategic thinking and planning of clinical trials and write clinical trial protocols (In conjunction with the Director of clinical research) ?? Analyze and interpret results of clinical trials (In conjunction with the Director of clinical research) ?? Write end-of-study clinical study reports (In conjunction with the Director of clinical research) ?? Write grant proposal and act as a co-investigators and principal investigator for clinical and scientific projects Management and coordination of pre-clinical studies (3hrs/day) ?? Identify compounds with promising drugs based on scientific results ?? Interpret scientific data and write reports and scientific articles ?? Design scientific projects and write grant proposals ?? Locate potential scientific collaborators for the organization ?? Coordinate various scientific and pre-clinical projects among national and international research laboratories Editor of a research journal, ??Searchlight ??with primary emphasis on basic and clinical developments ?? Writing original medical/scientific articles (1-2hr/day) ?? Coordinating all aspects of editorial process and contributions to keep searchlight on schedule (2hrs/week) ?? Work in coordination with the development staff to allow development staff to maximize their fundraising potential with donors receiving Searchlight. (1-2 hr/ month) ?? Soliciting, coordinating and editing non-staff authors of articles (2hr/month) ?? Attending and representing the organization at regular national and international scientific conferences to be determined by the Director of Clinical Research (one conference/2 months) ?? Presentation of research projects at various national/international meetings and to potential research and clinical collaborators (at every conference) ?? Interviewing and verifying scientific information with scientific leaders in the international research community (during each conference) Director of Scientific Communications (1-2hr/day) ?? Provide support and assistance to staff, Board of Directors, and Medical Executive Committee, by communicating scientific results and issues at the appropriate scientific level given the audience
Uppers
My position requires me to use my scientific background and apply them to drug development and clinical research. This is a challenging and multifunctional job which satisfy not only my curiosity as a scientist but also enable me to follow through and see the effect of our effort in patient's health. I also enjoy attending conferences and interacting with my colleagues.
Downers
I enjoy my this position and I do not see any downers that are not related to the fact that the organization is a non-profit and lack some fundings.
Lifestyle
The organization is a very diverse and friendly work place. We are all part of a team and are willing to help each other in achieving the mission of the organization which is to find a cure for life-threatening diseases. I enjoy the business travels and there is no specific dress code.
Compensation
Unfortunately, due to the lack of enough funding the salary is 20% less than in pharmaceutical companies for similar positions. However, the organization provide a very good benefit package.
Advice to Jobseekers
This is a multifunctional position with lots of responsibilities, and a great position for people who likes to combine science, drug development and clinical trials. Scientist interested in this type of position, they should be open to, at least one year, of on the job training about various aspect of drug development and regulatory affairs.
